HCHS Lab Department Successfully Passes Lab Accreditation Survey

On Thursday, October 29th, the Harlan County Health System Lab Department successfully passed a survey that keeps the lab accredited and able to perform testing. This survey is conducted every 2 years and the surveyor that visits, spends the day looking through the lab's quality control, proficiency testing, procedure manuals, and our Technician competency testing. The qualifications of each Technician are reviewed as well. This is all done to make sure they are following the CLIA (Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments) set forth by the CMS, which are federal regulations that every lab must follow. The surveyor also toured the lab, looked through their instrumentation, asked the Technicians questions and gave recommendations to help them stay within compliance, as well as ways to improve the lab. HCHS is extremely grateful to be able to continue to provide these services to our community. Congratulations to this amazing team!
